Owners of 2023-2025 GMC Savana vehicles may comment on the brake pedal not returning all the way up and/or the brake light stays on after releasing the brake pedal. This condition may be caused by the Hydro Boost unit, not the pedal assembly.
Remove the cap on the power steering reservoir. This could release back pressure on the system. Cycle the pedal multiple times to see if the condition still exists. If the condition is fixed, there is no need to proceed further.
Verify that the power steering return hose is not kinked, from the top of the Hydro Booster to the reservoir. Cycle the pedal multiple times to see if the condition still exists. If fixed, no need to go further.
Remove the master cylinder cap to release pressure (a vacuum may have been present). Again, cycle the pedal several times. If OK, you’re done.
Bleed the brake system and cycle the pedal several times. If fixed, you’re done.
If none of the previous checks solved the problem, replace the hydro boost unit and perform a brake pedal position sensor calibration. The booster is available as P/N 84474523.
