Certain 2017 GMC Acadia vehicles may have a brake pedal position sensor (BPPS) flag bracket which allows too much rotation, causing the BPPS sensor to indicate that the brake pedal is applied.
Inspect to verify that all three plastic tabs are secured over the pedal arm.
Certain 2017 GMC Acadia vehicles may have a brake pedal position sensor (BPPS) flag bracket which allows too much rotation, causing the BPPS sensor to indicate that the brake pedal is applied.
This could cause the brake lamps to stay on, which could impair the brake lamps’ ability to indicate the intention of the driver to stop/slow down, and this can cause the battery to drain. This can also cause the cruise control system to be inoperative.
This can require the replacement of the brake and accelerator pedal bracket, P/N 22995263.

Brake and accelerator pedal assembly shown out of the vehicle for illustration purposes. Paint pen scribe marks (3) shows the relationship between the base of the BPPS switch bracket and the bracket shaft. The two-sided arrow (2) indicates the rotation path of the BPPS switch bracket.
1. Position the driver seat in the rear-most position to gain access to the BPPS switch activation bracket.
2. Ensure that all three BPPS switch activation bracket plastic tabs are secured over the pedal arm. If any of the BPPS bracket plastic tabs are not secured over the pedal arm, secure the tabs over the pedal arm.
3. Using your fingers, rotate the BPPS activation bracket back and forth to determine if there is any movement at the base of the bracket and bracket shaft.
4. If there is one mm or less of movement in any direction, or less than two mm of movement total in both directions and the brake lights do not remain on after attempting to rotate the bracket, no further action is needed.
5. If there is more than 1mm movement in any direction or over 2mm in movement total in both directions, and the brake lights remain on, replace the brake and accelerator pedal bracket assembly.
