Some 2008-2011 Toyota Highlander HV vehicles may exhibit a warning light with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P1423 or fuel cap-binding during removal or installation.

Check the fuel cap condition. If difficult to operate, inspect the fuel neck for overlapping threads. If the threads overlap, replace the cap with part number (P/N) 77300-50030. If the threads do not overlap, replace the cap with P/N 77300-48010. The fuel caps have been redesigned to eliminate the problem. After the repair is complete, perform the automatic Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system check to confirm that there are no pending DTCs and the system is normal.
