TSB: Mazda Active Air Shutter
Mazda Active Air Shutter
This bulletin applies to 2019-2020 Mazda3 Japan-built vehicles built before April 3, 2020 with 2.5L engines (with cylinder deactivation); 2019-2021 Mazda3 Mexico built vehicles built before December 24, 2020 with cylinder deactivation 2.5L; 2020-2021 CX-30 US-built non-turbo with cylinder deactivation built before December 24, 2020 and 2022 MX-30 vehicles built before June 2, 2022.
Some vehicles may have DTC P05A0:00 set ()active air shutter and sticking opening angle). This is caused by improper control software of the PCM detecting the DTC immediately without performing the failsafe operation. When the active shutter detects unusual torque (snow/ice buildup for example), it is designed to repeat opening/closing cycles up to three times as a failsafe to try to remove lodged objects, which temporarily disturbs the movement. On MX-30 vehicles, when a temporary blocking of the active air shutter is expected to be caused by snow/ice and the heater is turned on, the DTC may be unintentionally detected.
The control software of the PCM has been modified. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Clear the DTC, turn the ignition off and exit the vehicle. Close and lock the door and wait for at least ten minutes. Verify the repair.
