TSB: Mazda Idle Noise

To fix engine noise concerns, technicians should reprogram the vehicle's control modules, clear DTCs, and perform a series of engine and shift range learning cycles as outlined by Mazda's diagnostic procedures.

Mazda Idle Noise

Some owners of 2024 Mazda CX-90 vehicles built before February 29, 2024 may complain about an engine compartment noise at idle. This may be caused by the fuel injection learning cycle at idle from the high pressure fuel pump. To eliminate this concern, the control software of the PCM has been modified. Reprogram the PCM and TCM with the Mazda modular diagnostic system (M-MDS).

  • Clear any DTCs. Make sure there is no check engine light on or any abnormal warning lights.

  • Perform TCM initial learning according to the instructions on MGSS (initial learning of AT).

  • Start the engine and wait for at least 5 seconds. Turn the engine off and wait for at least 5 seconds. Repeat this two more times (three cycles total).

  • Perform the learning cycle for shift ranges. Start the engine. While idling, depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to D. Then move the shift lever from D to R and wait for 10 seconds. Move the shift lever from R to D and wait 10 seconds. Do not stop in N range while moving the shift lever. Repeat this four more times (five cycles total).
