Installing Ford Ranger engine cover

Some 2019-2020 Ford Ranger vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTC P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and/or P0316 stored in the PCM.

Some 2019-2020 Ford Ranger vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTC P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and/or P0316 stored in the PCM.

This may be due to water buildup in the spark plug wells, which can lead to signs of corrosion on ignition system components. This can occur if he engine appearance cover is missing or improperly installed. The engine appearance cover kit is available as P/N L1MZ-6A949-C.

1. Resolve engine misfire DTCs (as listed above) via normal diagnostics.

2. Locate the two engine appearance cover mounting bosses on the valve cover.

3. Install the two engine appearance cover stud bolts to the valve cover and tighten to 89 in-lb.

4. Lubricate each grommet on the cover with silicone brake caliper grease and dielectric compound to aid cover installation.

5. Install the engine cover. Install the two engine appearance cover nuts and tighten to 89 in-lb.
