Ohio woman paid $30 for a thief to steal her car to avoid repair costs

When it came time to pay her $3,500 bill at an auto repair shop, a 28-year-old woman allegedly hired a person to steal her car.

A woman in Ohio allegedly paid someone to steal her car from an auto repair shop when it came time to pay her $3,500 repair bill, according to NBC 29 News.

The owner of Kitu's Auto Group in Cincinnati, Kitu Veal, told NBC 29 News 28-year old Terrella Lewis didn't have the money when it came time to pay her bill. He offered to help her by moving the car to another location he owned. The car would remain parked there until she would be able to pay off the bill, said Veal in the news report.

But instead, just minutes later while the car was parked on the street outside the repair shop, Veal saw a guy try to get into the car. The shop owner ran out and stood in front of the car to avoid him from taking off, the article noted.

The driver started the car and took off, dragging Veal down the street.

Everything was caught on surveillance video. Police have not identified the driver yet. They claim in an affidavit that Lewis gave the driver a key to her car and paid them $30, said the news article.

Lewis is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center and will appear before a grand jury June 30, the news article reported.
