This Week's Recalls: Oct 5-9 2026

A quarter-million Ram ProMaster vans lead the week, with Ford headlights, a Volkswagen ID.4 battery fire risk and a Ram 1500 TPMS fault close behind.

Key Highlights

  • Ram is recalling 265,512 model year 2022–2026 ProMaster vans, including 2024–2026 ProMaster EVs, because water can enter the electric power steering wiring harness and disable steering assist.
  • Ford is recalling 41,748 model year 2025–2027 Expeditions and 2026 F-250 through F-550 Super Duty trucks because a contaminated LED chip can knock out daytime running, parking, high-beam or low-beam lighting.
  • Volkswagen is recalling 22,524 model year 2023–2026 ID.4s because the high voltage battery may fail and cause a fire; owners are told to charge to no more than 80% until repaired.
  • Ram is recalling 16,385 model year 2026 Ram 1500 pickups because tire pressure monitoring sensors may fail to detect low pressure or illuminate the TPMS warning light.
  • Land Rover is recalling 371 model year 2024 Defenders because a second-row seat belt may be improperly stitched and fail to restrain an occupant in a crash.

Five featured NHTSA recalls for October 5–9, 2026, affect 346,540 vehicles; the Ram ProMaster power-steering campaign is the largest at 265,512. Graphic: Motor Age.

Ram

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 265,512 vehicles: model year 2022–2026 Ram ProMaster 1500, 2500 and 3500 vans and 2024–2026 Ram ProMaster 3500 EVs. Water may enter the electric power steering wiring harness, which can disable power steering assist.

A loss of power steering assist increases the risk of a crash. The steering still works, but the effort required to turn the wheel rises sharply and without warning, which matters most at low speeds and in the loaded commercial-van duty cycle these vehicles typically see.

Dealers will inspect and replace the wiring harness and electronic power steering gear, as necessary, free of charge. The final remedy is not yet available.

Interim notification letters advising owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed November 17, 2026, with additional letters to follow once the final remedy is ready. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 and reference recall number 92D. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 6, 2026.

Ford

Ford Motor Company is recalling 41,748 vehicles: model year 2025–2027 Expeditions and 2026 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks. The headlight assemblies may contain a contaminated LED chip, which can result in a loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

A loss of exterior lighting reduces visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the headlight assemblies, as necessary, free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 26, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 26C43. VINs involved will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning October 26, 2026.

A vehicle fire increases the risk of injury. Until the repair is completed, owners are advised to charge their vehicles to a maximum of 80% battery capacity.

The remedy is currently under development.

Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed November 27, 2026, with additional letters to follow once the remedy is available. Ram

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 16,385 model year 2026 Ram 1500 vehicles. The tire pressure monitoring system sensors may fail to detect low tire pressure and/or fail to illuminate the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with FMVSS No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."

A TPMS warning light that fails to notify the driver of low tire pressure increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace the tire pressure sensors, as necessary, free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 27, 2026. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 51D. VINs involved became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 6, 2026.

Land Rover

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling 371 model year 2024 Land Rover Defender vehicles. The second-row seat belt may be improperly stitched.

An improperly stitched seat belt may fail to properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect the second-row seat belt serial number and replace the seat belt, as necessary, free of charge.

Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed November 20, 2026, with additional letters to follow once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 800-637-6837 and reference recall number D130.
