This Week's Recalls: Feb 16-20
Manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Hyundai, BMW, and Volvo have issued new safety recalls. Key concerns range from high-voltage battery fire risks to structural failures in steering and engine components.
BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: Rear lamp firmware malfunction
BMW of North America is recalling certain 2026 2 Series Gran Coupe vehicles, including 228i and M235i xDrive models. The rear lamps may contain inappropriate firmware, causing the taillamps, stop lamps, or turn signals to malfunction. This failure to comply with FMVSS number 108 increases the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Authorized BMW dealers will replace the affected rear lamp assemblies free of charge.

Ford Transit: Engine crossmember separation
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ford Transit vehicles equipped with the Transit Trail package. Fasteners used to secure the engine crossmember may have been installed without a washer during the body-lift modification process. This can result in joint failure, causing the engine to slip out of position and potentially leading to a loss of motive power or brake system damage.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the crossmember fasteners with new versions that include a washer at no cost to the owner.

Hyundai Kona: Steering knuckle fracture
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2026 Kona vehicles equipped with gasoline engines. The front steering knuckles may have been improperly cast due to mold contamination, which could cause the assembly to crack or fracture under high load. A fractured knuckle can result in a loss of steering control.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect the steering knuckle lot information and replace the components as necessary for free.

Mercedes-Benz EQB: High-voltage battery fire risk
Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2022-2024 EQB 300 4MATIC, EQB 350 4MATIC, and 2023-2024 EQB 250+ vehicles. Due to supplier production deviations, battery cells may be less robust against stress factors, potentially leading to an internal short circuit at a high state-of-charge. This condition can result in a thermal event and increase the risk of a fire.
The Fix: Authorized dealers will replace the high-voltage battery free of charge. Until the repair is performed, owners are instructed to charge the battery to a maximum of 80% and are advised to park their vehicles outside.

Volvo S60L: Side door latch failure
Volvo Car USA is recalling certain 2017 S60L vehicles as an expansion of a previous recall action. In extreme hot climates, the side door latch may weaken over time, causing the pawl spring retention hook to break. This could result in the door opening while the vehicle is being driven.
The Fix: Volvo will replace all four door latches with a new, improved design at no cost to customers.
