TSB: RAM Ratcheting Noise
RAM Ratcheting Noise
This bulletin applies to 2019-2023 RAM 2500, 3500 and 4500/5500 vehicles, built on or before October 22, 2023 and equipped with 4WD. A ratcheting or click noise may be heard in 4WD while turning. The cause may be an improperly machined front driveshaft.
-
With the 4WD system in 2WD mode, drive the vehicle between 1-5 mph while turning the steering wheel between ¼ turn and full lock.
-
If the ratcheting noise is not heard, place the system into 4WD mode.
-
In a safe area, drive the vehicle again between 1-5 mph while turning the steering wheel between ¼ and full lock. If the ratcheting noise is heard, replace the front driveshaft, using new driveshaft bolts.
