RAM Ratcheting Noise

This bulletin applies to 2019-2023 RAM 2500, 3500 and 4500/5500 vehicles, built on or before October 22, 2023 and equipped with 4WD. A ratcheting or click noise may be heard in 4WD while turning. The cause may be an improperly machined front driveshaft.

  1. With the 4WD system in 2WD mode, drive the vehicle between 1-5 mph while turning the steering wheel between ¼ turn and full lock.

  2. If the ratcheting noise is not heard, place the system into 4WD mode.

  3. In a safe area, drive the vehicle again between 1-5 mph while turning the steering wheel between ¼ and full lock. If the ratcheting noise is heard, replace the front driveshaft, using new driveshaft bolts.
