This bulletin applies to 2018-2023 Chevy Express equipped with a 4.3L engine and GMC Savana vehicles equipped with a 6.6L engine.

Concerns may include a no-start, hard-to-start with belt squeal, broken generator belt, loss of power steering and/or loss of power brake assist. The cause may be water leaking from the cowl area into the generator vents. Under certain weather conditions, the water can freeze inside and prevent the generator from turning.

Replace the generator, belt and any other pulleys that have been contaminated with rubber build-up from the belt heating up. Seal the water leak at the cowl with Kent Automotive High-Tech Clear Seam Sealer P/N P10200. Be sure to apply the seam sealer to the entire inner lower right side seam. You’ll need to remove the windshield wiper system module and the air inlet grille panels for access.
