The rearview mirror may rattle up and down when adjusting the mirror. The mirror may rattle when driving on rough roads. This concern occurs during rearview mirror installation. The adhesive is squeezed out between the windshield and the mirror base. The rearview mirror is assembled on top of the overextended adhesive. The adhesive is softened by heat and the screws loosen.

Remove the mirror. Remove the extra adhesive extending from the mirror base with a utility knife. Before adhesive removal, trim off the adhesive while making several notches to avoid scratching the ceramic part of the windshield. Reinstall the mirror. Tighten the screw to 11 to 17 in-lb.
