This bulletin applies to 2017-2019 Jeep Compass vehicles built on or before Sept. 3, 2018, equipped with Stop-Start Single VSM system or Stop-Start Dual battery system.
Customers may experience a MIL on. The engine stop-start (ESS) may turn off with a message displayed in the cluster and will stay off while driving. DTC P152F may be set (engine hood switch two/engine hood switch one correlation).

Do not compress the striker pin before installation. Use a socket or other applicable tool to push the striker plate onto the hood.
Open and secure the hood. Using a trim stick or equivalent, remove the original striker plate from the hood and discard.
Install a new striker plate P/N 68417561AA. Note: the new striker plate has an installation and a locked position. DO NOT compress the striker pin before installation. Failure to do so will lock the striker plate and it will have to be discarded.
