This bulletin applies to 2011-2016 Jeep Compass/Patriot vehicles, where the 2.0 or 2.4L engine has been replaced.
CAUTION: Updating the PCM software or replacing the PCM on a vehicle with the incorrect replacement engine will result in a no-start condition that cannot be undone. If the engine has been replaced (where numbers do not match), do not perform a PCM flash or replace the PCM, unless it is a certified MOPAR engine built specifically for the vehicle application.

Confirm that the last eight digits of the VIN matches the engine identification number before proceeding with PCM software updates or PCM replacement, The engine identification number (last eight digits of the VIN) is stamped on the bottom rear of the engine block near the transmission.
