Reprogramming Toyota Tundra Brake Controller

Some 2018-2019 Toyota Tundra vehicles equipped with integrated trailer brake controllers may exhibit an intermittent “Trailer Disconnected” message while towing a trailer.

Some 2018-2019 Toyota Tundra vehicles equipped with integrated trailer brake controllers may exhibit an intermittent “Trailer Disconnected” message while towing a trailer. Reprogramming is required, using software version 14.00.019 or later. Use Techstream or an approved J2534 interface.

Previous calibration IDs of 8954F0C050 or 8954F0C040 are to be updated using ID 8954F0C060. According to Toyota, the GR8 battery diagnostic station must be used in Power Supply mode to maintain battery voltage at 13.5 volts while flash reprogramming. Damage to the trailer brake controller ECU may occur if the correct battery charge mode setting is not used.
