Addressing GM's No Reverse Condition

This bulletin applies to 2016 Cadillac XTS and SRX, Buick Enclave, Lacrosse and Regal, Chevy Equinox, Impala and Traverse and GMC Acadia and Terrain vehicles, equipped with an MH2, MHM, M7U, M7V, M7W or M7X transmission.

Retaining ring 415; input shaft speed sensor reluctor wheel 416; 3-5 reverse clutch piston 417; 3-5 reverse and 4-5-6 clutch housing assembly 422.

Customers may comment about a condition of no reverse gear and/or no 3rd gear. Technicians may find DTCs P0716 and/or P0717 active or in history.

The condition may be caused by the input shaft speed sensor reluctor ring retainer ring being out of it’s groove. Refer to 3-5-Reverse and 4-5-6 clutch housing overhaul in the service manual. Replace the retainer ring, input shaft speed sensor reluctor wheel, 3-5 reverse clutch piston, and 3-5-reverse and 4-5-6 clutch housing assembly. Inspect and replace other distressed parts as needed.
