Replacing Chevy Auxiliary Fuel Pump

Owners of 2010-2017 Chevy Equinox vehicles may comment about a “pop” or multiple pop noises from the rear of the vehicles shortly after a cold start (this may occur after an EVAP purge event).

Owners of 2010-2017 Chevy Equinox vehicles may comment about a “pop” or multiple pop noises from the rear of the vehicles shortly after a cold start (this may occur after an EVAP purge event).

The condition may be caused by the auxiliary fuel pump in the left side of the fuel tank changing height (spring loaded leg). Replacing the primary fuel pump module would not correct this noise condition. Replace only the auxiliary fuel pump.

The technician should be able to duplicate the concern by commanding a purge and seal on the EVAP system using GDS2. As the vacuum reaches three- to five-inches Hg (17 kPa), the popping noise should be duplicated.
