This bulletin applies to all BMW models equipped with the N20, N26 and N55 engines produced to November 2015. Intermittently the engine may experience a loss of power along with a Drivetrain Malfunction message. The MIL may also be on. There are one or more of the following air mass plausibility and Valvetronic system faults stored in the DME memory:
E-Series with BN2000:
2775...air mass, plausibility; air mass too low
2C57....charging pressure control, plausibility; pressure too low
2DCE...Valvetronic system: no adjustment possible
3164....fuel tank ventilation system, second inlet point: malfunction
F-Series with BN2020:
102002.....air mass, plausibility: air mass too low
120308.....charging pressure control, plausibility: pressure too low
133B04......Valvetronic system: no adjustment possible
191C02.......fuel tank ventilation system, 2nd inlet point, malfunction
Cause: Defective Valvetronic or tank ventilation component’ erroneous faults set due to DME software parameters.
Using the latest version of ISTA, perform all recommended test plans. Visually check that there are no leaks in the lines or connectors of the charge air system. If any faults were detected, make the needed repairs and program the vehicle to the specified integration level using ISTA/P 3.57.0 or higher. If no faults were detected, program the vehicle to update the DME software.
