This bulletin applies to 2018-2019 RAM 1500 pickup trucks built on or after April 3, 2018 and on or before Aug. 8, 2018 and equipped with a 3.21, 3.55 or 3.92:1 axle ratio (both conventional and anti-spin). The customer may notice a growling noise from the rear axle. When checking the rear axle for proper fluid level, inspect the rear axle fluid level for being within specification.

Clean the area around the fill plug and remove the fill plug. Take a piece of wire or zip tie and make a 90-degree bend two inches from the end of the wire. Make a line at six mm (1/4-inch) for a lubricant level indicator line. Insert the wire (or zip tie) perpendicular to the fill plug hole and use it like a dipstick. Remove the wire and verify that the fluid level is within the marked line from the 90-degree bend to the oil level. If not within spec, Chrysler recommends replacing the rear axle assembly under warranty. Note: Rear axle assemblies are pre-filled with lubricant.
