This bulletin applies to 2012-2015 Audi A6/A7, 2011-2015 S4, S5 Cabriolet/Q7 and 2013-2015 S5, A8, Q5 and SQ5 vehicles. One or both of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes may be stored in the ECM:
P2440(00)...secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open, bank 1
P2442(00)...secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2
Scenario A....One of the combi valves is defective.
Scenario B...The vacuum solenoid is defective.
Scenario A is the cause if one or both of the DTCs is stored. The bit for MIL shows “1” for one DTC only.
Scenario B is the cause if both of the DTCs are stored, if the DTCs were stored at the same time, and the bit for MIL on shows “1” for both DTCs.
For scenario A, replace the combi valve of the bank with the DTC that caused the MIL to illuminate. For scenario B, replace the vacuum solenoid valve that controls both of the combi valves.
In this example, both DTCs are stored. The bit for MIL on shows “1” for both DTCs (A and B).
