Check for Mazda CX-9 fuel pump trouble

Jan. 2, 2024
Some 2016-2017 Mazda CX-9 vehicles may experience DTC P064A:00 stored in the PCM memory, with no drivability concerns.

This bulletin applies to 2016-2017 Mazda CX-9 vehicles produced before March 7, 2017. Some vehicles may experience DTC P064A:00 stored in the PCM memory, with no drivability concerns.

P064A:00 indicates a fuel pump control module error. The difference between the actual fuel pressure and the target fuel pressure is 1.5 psi or more, even though the fuel pressure feedback amount on the low pressure side remains high. The check engine light may not be on. Freeze frame data may not be available.

The DTC may be set by an inadequate detection logic. To eliminate this concern, the detection function of DTC P064A has been disabled. If you find this DTC stored during any service opportunity, check if there is any drivability concern accompanied and/or any other fuel pump related DTC, especially P0087 stored. If so, perform diagnosis according to the instructions on MGSS online.

If there are no drivability concerns and no other fuel pump related DTC, reprogram the PCM with Mazda Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS) using IDS 106.03 or later software. Reboot the IDS to clear memory before reprogramming. Reprogram the PCM using the latest calibration.
