Caliper Bolt Length
This bulletin applies to 2013-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles, built on or after June 8, 2013, with a rear rattling noise complaint. The rear brake caliper adapter mounting bolts may contact the brake shield, possibly because the bolts are too long.
PARTS REQUIRED ………………………… P/N ………............ QTY
Screw, hex flange head, M12x1.5 x 35........ 06104235AA............ 4
3M 08681 Single Step Primer....................... NPN
Remove both rear wheels and inspect for interference between the brake caliper adapter mounting bolts and the brake dust shield at both right and left brake locations. If interference is noted, remove the rear brake rotors.
The dust shields may have been pushed outboard, contacting the brake rotors due to the too-long bolts. Push firmly on the dust shields directly across from where the caliper adapter mounts in order to reposition the dust shields inboard.
Reinstall the brake rotors onto the wheel studs and verify that there is 1.5mm spacing between the rotor face and the dust shield. Remove the rotors and use a brush to apply 3M Single Step Primer to the paint affected areas of the dust shields to prevent rust.
Replace the existing caliper adapter mounting bolts with the shorter replacement bolts (M12 x 1.5 x 35) and tighten to torque specification listed in the service manual.
