For 10 years the 1957 Mercedes Benz 300 SL sat in the lobby of BASF’s Southfield, Michigan headquarters. BASF decided to have a coming out party for the classic gullwing car. That party involved a full restoration and a guest spot on the cable television program Dream Car Garage. The car is now on display at the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance.
“Late last year, we began exploring a Concours restoration for the Gullwing. And the first person we called was our friend, Peter Klut, a fellow car guy, and host of the television show Dream Car Garage. BASF has a long standing relationship with Peter and his team at Legendary Motorcar. Peter not only accepted the challenge of a 100-point restoration on the Gullwing, he wanted to do it on television!” said Darlene Eilenberger, BASF marketing director, during the unveiling of the car at Concours.
Eilenberger noted that the 300 SL was restored with BASF’s Glasurit 90 Line of waterborne refinishing products.
