Autel U.S. will host a full day of advanced automotive HVAC and thermal management training on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Hilton Garden Inn Roslyn in Port Washington, New York. The training is open to automotive technicians and educators nationwide and will focus on the company’s MaxiHVAC AC909 and its approach to diagnosing vehicle HVAC and thermal management systems.

As vehicle technology has evolved, HVAC and thermal management systems have expanded beyond maintaining cabin comfort. These systems can also play a role in regulating the temperatures of batteries, power electronics, computers, and other components critical to vehicle operation.

The training will give attendees an opportunity to learn about the strategy behind the AC909’s development and how its diagnostic approach differs from traditional vehicle HVAC service.

Gary DeLuca, founder of Autel U.S., spearheaded development of the AC909 from its initial concept through the creation of a functioning system. According to the company, interest from technicians in learning more about the tool led to the development of the in-person training event.

“The response to the AC909 has confirmed what we believed from the beginning: technicians have been waiting for a better way to diagnose these systems,” DeLuca said. “HVAC is becoming increasingly important to the vehicle’s overall performance, but the diagnostic process has not kept pace with that change. This training will help technicians understand why we developed the AC909, how it changes the traditional approach to A/C diagnosis and how they can begin applying these new strategies in their shops.”

Scott Norman, professor and Automotive Technology Program Coordinator at Pittsburg State University, described the AC909 as “like going from DOS to Windows” and “a huge game changer in the automotive industry.”

Led by DeLuca and Applied Automotive Technology owner Gary Machiros, the training will demonstrate how technicians can combine live vehicle data with physical A/C system measurements to diagnose HVAC and thermal management problems.

The AC909 brings refrigerant pressures, temperatures, humidity, and other system measurements together with vehicle diagnostic data on a single graphical analysis screen. Guided procedures are designed to help technicians evaluate system operation, isolate faults, and verify repairs.

The Oct. 30 training program will cover:

• Advanced HVAC diagnostic strategies using OBD data and physical system measurements
• Pressure, temperature, and humidity analysis
• Compressor, condenser, evaporator, and metering-device diagnostics
• Electronically controlled A/C systems and components
• ICE, hybrid, and EV thermal management, including heat-pump systems
• Guided diagnostic workflows using the Autel MaxiHVAC AC909
• New refrigerant leak-detection techniques

DeLuca has more than 50 years of experience in automotive training and repair, including automotive diagnostics, A/C, and commercial HVAC. Machiros has more than 40 years of experience in automotive repair, diagnostics, and shop ownership. An ASE Master Technician, instructor, and industry consultant, Machiros has experience in diagnostics, ADAS, automotive A/C, and HVAC.

The training will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Roslyn, 3 Harbor Park Drive, Port Washington, New York. Continental breakfast, snacks, and lunch are included.
