Using the instrument cluster malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is a quick way to confirm all emission monitors have passed or have yet to pass.

Honda vehicles can display OBD II emission monitor status (complete or incomplete) using the instrument cluster malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). This is a quick way to confirm all emission monitors have passed or have yet to pass. Also referred to as complete or incomplete emission monitors or readiness codes.

To start, begin with the ignition off. Then turn the ignition on while keeping the engine off. The MIL will illuminate and remain on steady for 20 seconds if all monitors are complete. If one or more monitors are incomplete, the MIL will turn on steady for 20 seconds and blink five times. To determine which monitors are incomplete, connect an OBD II scan tool and check monitor status.
