TSB: Subaru Memory DTC

This bulletin explains how DTC P0606 may be set in Subaru models with 2.0L or 2.4L DIT engines, especially after battery disconnection or ECM replacement, and provides procedures to prevent it.

Subaru Memory DTC

This bulletin applies to all Subaru models equipped with a 2.0L or 2.4L DIT (Turbo) engine. DTC P0606 ,may be set. The engine management system is equipped with a back-up memory. When disconnecting the battery cables, the back-up memory is cleared. After reconnecting the battery, if the ignition switch is turned back on within one minute after the first time the ignition is turned off, it becomes possible for the CEL to illuminate, storing the DTC in memory. The code will not occur immediately, but may occur after a period of time depending on how the vehicle is operated.

Examples of scenarios which can start the groundwork for DTC P0606 include disconnecting the battery, OBD memory clear, a dead of deeply discharged battery, ECM replacement or accessory installation or other services which require battery disconnection.

To minimize the chances of this DTC setting, using the SSMII, clear the ECM memory in OBD. Turn the ignition on, then off normally one time. Wait for more than one minute before turning the ignition on again. This procedure allows the self-shutoff relay to power down, completing the self-shutoff procedure.
