TSB: Audi Drivetrain Noise

Feb. 17, 2026
2 min read

This bulletin applies to 2017-2025 Audi A4 and A4 Alroad, 2018-2025S4, A5, S5, Q5, SQ5, 2018-2025 RS5, 2019-2025 A6/A7, 2020-2025 S6, S7, Q5 e quattro, and 2021-2022 A7 e quattro vehicles.

Noises from the drive train (S-tronic gearbox, manual gearbox, propshaft and/or rear final drive) may be heard when quickly pulling away from a stop with the wheels turned. Vibrations, humming and droning may also be noted when driving in a straight line, particularly in wet conditions. The noise may also be perceived as a knocking sound from the vehicle rear.

Due to the different speeds between the front axle differential and the rear final drive, varying degrees of noises/vibrations can occur when taking very tight corners, driving in a straight line (especially on wet roads) and when the all-wheel drive coupling 1 is closed.

  • Check that the S-tronic transmission/manual transmission is at operating temperature.
  • Completely drain off ATF from the all-wheel drive coupling 1 and dispose of the ATF properly.
  • Add new ATF and set the ATF level.
  • Reach/confirm operating temperature in the transmission.
  • Let the vehicle cool down.
  • Reach/confirm operating temperature again.
  • Let the vehicle cool down.
  • Perform the basic setting “Reset Learned Values for Oil Aging” using ODIS Guided Functions or Self Diagnosis.
  • Drive the vehicle a maximum of 60 miles until the complaint is no longer present.
