This bulletin applies to BMW 3 Series sedan, 4 Series coupe/convertible and Z4 roadster vehicles built from Nov. 5, 2018, to July 1, 2021. The yellow CCM (check control module) light up when starting the engine (ID code 42/brake system). Various fault patterns may occur depending on the time of occurrence: the parking brake may not work or cannot be released. ABS or other dynamic stability control functions may no longer be available.

DTC 48082F (internal control unit – read-only memory/flash error) may be stored in the DSC control unit. After another terminal change, the CCM goes out. The fault code is no longer entered. Repeating the DSC control unit self-test cures the fault. The fault is very unlikely to occur again. The cause is “unfavorable software” in the DSC control unit.

Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.30.21. Using the latest version of ISTA, verify that fault code 48082F is entered into the IB fault memory. Determine the vehicle’s current I-level be either using AIR or the Key reader/ISPA NEXT application. If the I level is older (lower) than S18A-21-07-500, program/encode with ISTA 4.30.21 to I-level S18A-21-07-520 or a more recent version. Note that ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
