This bulletin applies to Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with a turbocharged OM642 LS engine. You may encounter possible external coolant loss and/or oil loss between the turbocharger and carrier. The display “Coolant – Service Required” may appear in the instrument cluster.
The right-hand connecting bolt between the turbocharger and the carrier (oil supply connection fitting) may be loose or cracked.
Replace the turbocharger carrier (oil supply connection fitting), seal and two bolts between the turbocharger and carrier. Torque the two bolts to 20 Nm, followed by additional rotation of 60 degrees. Do not replace the turbocharger. Note that using emery cloth or other abrasives to remove elastomer seals is not permitted (engine contamination is likely). Follow the repair with an engine oil change.
The new turbo carrier oil supply connection fitting is available as P/N A 642 096 11 45. The seal between the turbo and carrier is P/N A 642 142 09 81. The two new bolts required are P/N A 001 990 31 07.
