Example of the zirconium inserts featured on Audi vehicles that are equipped with ceramic brake pads.
This bulletin applies to all 2006-2023 Audi vehicles equipped with ceramic brake pads. When working on the brake calipers (when replacing brake pads, etc.), you may notice that the zirconium inserts are not firmly attached to the caliper pistons.
The zirconium inserts are loose an can be turned/removed. To prevent the brake pads’ high temperatures from being transferred to the caliper pistons, piston seals and brake fluid, zirconium inserts are used on the ceramic brake system. Be sure to fit the zirconium inserts back into the caliper pistons.
