Unfreeze RAM Transmission with Software Update

This bulletin involves possible transmission cooler freeze-up on 2012 Dodge RAM 1500, 2500 and 3500 cab chassis trucks, equipped with a four-speed 42RLE or six-speed 65RFE or six-speed 66RFE automatic transmission, built before Nov. 15, 2011. 

This bulletin involves possible transmission cooler freeze-up on 2012 Dodge RAM 1500, 2500 and 3500 cab chassis trucks, equipped with a four-speed 42RLE or six-speed 65RFE or six-speed 66RFE automatic transmission, built before Nov. 15, 2011. The MIL may illuminate, with DTC P0441 stored (EVAP purge system performance).

The transmission light and/or transmission cooler freeze-up may be involved as well. This condition will typically occur when temperatures are below -10 degrees F. The technician may also find DTC P0218 set (transmission high temperature operation activated). Updating the software will correct these conditions. Use software release 12.01 or higher.
