A Different Way to Install a Serpentine Belt Tensioner

Feb. 17, 2026

In this Motor Age Tech Tip Short, Technical Editor Noah Nelson demonstrates how Litens TAP™ (Technician Assist Pin) Technology simplifies belt service in tight engine bays like the 2017 Audi Q5.

This OE-engineered tensioner comes pre-loaded and locked in the retracted position, eliminating the struggle against spring pressure during installation. With the arm held back, technicians can bolt the unit in place with clear visibility, route the belt easily by hand and confirm perfect pulley alignment before applying tension. Once aligned, simply relieve pressure, remove the assist pin and allow the tensioner to take up the slack.
