Tech Tip: Understanding ADAS

June 24, 2025
Duane "Doc" Watson, technical trainer at Bosch Mobility Aftermarket, shares all about Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in this Tech Tip.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are electronic systems designed to improve vehicle safety and driving comfort by assisting drivers in controlling the vehicle. ADAS in modern vehicles rely on a network of sensors and cameras to perceive the environment and provide safety features like emergency braking or lane-keeping assistance.

To ensure these systems function correctly, they require precise calibration – particularly after windshield replacement or collision repairs. Technicians can benefit from investing in comprehensive ADAS calibration solutions which utilize advanced technology like vision sensors to measure distances and angles of targets relative to the vehicle, ensuring accurate calibration of various sensors. The flagship Bosch DAS 3000 solution accomplishes this, a product of close collaboration with vehicle manufacturers to ensure broad compatibility and adherence to OEM specifications.

Diagnostic scan tools like the Bosch ADS 625X are also helpful to have in your arsenal for easy calibrations. This tool will connect with your calibration unit to communicate with the vehicle’s ADAS and guide you through the calibration procedure, which involves adjusting the sensors until they are precisely aligned.
