Restricted Fuel Line Issue With Some Kias

Feb. 5, 2021

Owners of 2014-2016 Kia Soul, 2015-2016 Forte with GDI or 2014-2015 Sorento may experience an intermittent lack of power or hesitation upon acceleration. The MIL may not illuminate, or DTC P0087 may be stored in history (fuel rail/system pressure too low). This is possibly due to a restricted low pressure fuel line.

Begin by checking fuel pressure at the low pressure pump fuel output line in the fuel tank using a fuel gauge kit FPG2200. The gauge should display above the PSI shown in the table below if the low pressure fuel pump is functioning correctly.

MODEL YEAR             MODEL               ENGINE                     FUEL RAIL/SYSTEM PRESSURE (PSI)

2015-2016.............. FORTE............... 1.6L............................. 69.6

2015-2016...............FORTE...............2.0L.......................... 71.8

2014-2016...............SOUL................ 1.6L.......................... 69.6

2014-2016...............SOUL................ 2.0L......................... 71.8

2014-2015...............SORENTO......... 2.4L.......................... 69.7

2014-2015...............SORENTO..........3.3L.......................... 69.7

When the lack of power/hesitation occurs and the fuel pressure at the fuel tank is within specification, disconnect the fuel pressure gauge from the low pressure pump and connect it at the high pressure pump.

When the lack of power/hesitation occurs and the gauge drops below the PSI specification, the fuel feed line form the low pressure pump to the high pressure pump may be restricted. Replace the low pressure fuel line from the tank to the high pressure pump.
