How to improve supply chain efficiencies

Shared visibility of the aftermarket supply chain can help parts distributors and suppliers reduce inventory and operate more efficiently.

Bruce Adams, managing editor for Aftermarket Business World, wrote a blog, “Parts distributors, suppliers that share information can improve supply chain efficiency.”

Getting the right parts at the right place at the right time makes all three members of the auto aftermarket supply chain happy, but it often comes at a high price.

Aftermarket parts distributors have to carry huge inventories of parts, many of which they are unable to sell. If they don’t pay close attention to inventories, they often have to keep the parts, which hurts their bottom line. Those that are hawkish on their inventory may be able to sell non-selling parts to their suppliers for partial credits.
