A group of the north Denver area’s most prominent auto repair/maintenance shop owners recently collected enough food to feed a needy family of four for more than two months.

In conjunction with their annual symposium, the Automotive Service Association urged members to help deliver canned goods to the Food Bank of the Rockies, and the result at the Denver Marriott West conference room in Golden was a collection of nearly 2,000 cans, equal to 1,500 pounds.

ASA Executive Director Kari Foster and ASA Chairman Steve Horvath at the event

“We put out the word among our ASA folks, and they responded even more enthusiastically than we ever could have expected,” said Dana TePoel, co-chair of the annual symposium and owner of Lake Arbor Automotive & Truck in Westminster. “Auto repair shop owners tend to be very focused on the community, and we thought our symposium would be a good opportunity to leverage that desire to help.”

This was the local ASA chapter’s fifth annual symposium, where members congregate to discuss industry issues, learn about technological developments, get advice about their businesses and take advantage of the group’s knowledge and experience.

ASA-Colorado is a non-profit trade association serving independent automotive service professionals, and it advances professionalism and excellence in the auto repair industry through education, representation and member services.
