Stemco announces reorganization of product portfolio

June 25, 2020
The company announced that it will exit the brake products category and cease production of the Motor Wheel brake drum and Crewson brake adjuster product lines.

Stemco, an EnPro Industries company and manufacturer of heavy duty components and solutions for commercial vehicles, announced a series of changes to its product lines in an effort to refocus resources on its core products.

Stemco announced to its employees that it will exit the brake products category and cease production of the Motor Wheel brake drum and Crewson brake adjuster product lines. After exploring alternatives, Stemco was unable to find a partner to carry the Motor Wheel brake drum and Crewson brake adjuster brands forward. Orders will be taken until July 31 and shipped based on customer demand. Stemco will honor warranty needs going forward.

Additionally, Stemco entered into an agreement to sell the Lunar air disc brake product line and manufacturing facility back to Commercial Vehicle Components, LLC led by Peter Morse and Jack Mitchell. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval in China, which is expected to take four to six weeks. From now and until regulatory approval is received, there will be no change to ordering, shipping, or invoicing. Customers will continue to place orders with and receive orders from Stemco. With any questions regarding Lunar, please contact Commercial Vehicle Components at [email protected].

Finally, Stemco will no longer distribute Stemco GAFF polyurethane products. Stemco will work with customers and GAFF International to ensure a smooth transition.

Despite these difficult decisions, Stemco is refocusing its efforts on the success and viability of its wheel end and king pin product lines. In an email distributed to customers, Stemco President, Eric Vaillancourt, said:

“We have a rich history of manufacturing the best seals, hub caps, bearings, axle fasteners, kingpins, and air springs in the industry. As we diversified our product offering, we got away from what made us a wheel end innovator. With this announcement, we have chosen to focus our resources on continuing to do what we do best; world class manufacturing and engineering, as well as launching innovative and exciting new products.”

“Together, we press on to brighter days ahead for Stemco as we continue our mission of ‘Making the Roadways Safer,’” Vaillancourt closed his letter. “We truly thank you for your business and support.”
