Daimler Trucks North America will recall 863 of its 2017 Freightliner trucks for replacement of defective Goodyear tires starting Jan. 6, 2017.
The recall effects 2017 Freightliner Cascadia, Business Class M2 and 122SD trucks produced between Jan. 24 and Oct. 10, which were are equipped with Goodyear G399A LHS 295/75R22.5 Load Range G tires. These tires were themselves recalled by Goodyear beginning in Oct. 15, 2016.
The tread and the top belt may not have been adhered properly during the curing press set-up operation, which could result in tread separation while the tire is in use, according to the Safety Recall Report submitted by Goodyear in August 2016.
“A partial thread separation could lead to vehicle damage or a motor vehicle crash,” said Goodyear in the report.
Dealers will inspect and replace affected tires free of charge, on affected Daimler Trucks (and any other using the recalled tire).
