TSB: Mercedes DPF DTC
Key Highlights
- Fault codes P300E5F and P300E5E indicate high soot levels in the diesel particulate filter, with regeneration potentially disabled to protect the vehicle.
- Unfavorable driving conditions such as short trips and extended idling can lead to excessive soot buildup and regeneration lockout.
- Performing a tailpipe wipe test as per the service manual is recommended to assess DPF condition and ensure proper regeneration cycles.
- Regeneration remains permitted when soot levels are below 130%, but critical levels require specific maintenance actions.
- Timely diagnosis and maintenance can prevent further DPF issues and maintain vehicle performance.
Mercedes DPF DTC
This bulletin applies to 2022 and later Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with a diesel engine. The check engine light may be on, with a possible reduction of power, with no soot present in the exhaust system. Fault codes P300E5F (fill level of the diesel particulate filter too high...early warning) or P300E5E (fill level of the diesel particulate filter too high...regeneration of the filter is disabled) may be present.
These fault codes may be triggered due to unfavorable driving conditions such as frequent short-distance trips, extended idle periods, infrequent highway driving and/or incomplete regeneration cycles. These conditions can lead to excessive soot accumulation in the diesel particulate filter (DPF) resulting in elevated fill levels and regeneration lockout.
Fault code P300E5F indicates soot DPF load has exceeded 100% but is still below 130%. Regeneration remains permitted. Code P300E5E indicates DPF soot load has exceeded 130% (critical threshold). Regeneration is disabled to protect components.
Perform a tailpipe wipe test per service manual instructions.
