Some owners may comment on a squeak or chirp noise in 2WD that goes away in 4WD. A metallic jingle, ringing, click or tick may also be heard from the front of the vehicle. The condition may be easiest to duplicate in warmer ambient temperatures after about 30 miles of driving. Technicians may notice that the noise seems to be from the left front axle seal area. The condition may be caused by a left-side front axle shaft.

According to Chevy, this condition does not affect durability/operation. If the concern exists, replace the left front wheel shaft with part number 87821660 (this includes the retainer ring and slinger).
