Subaru Oil Leak

June 11, 2021
This bulletin applies to some Subarus with FB engines.

This bulletin applies to 2013-2019 Subaru BRZ, 2015-2019 WRX, 2014-2018 Forester Turbo equipped with FA engine, 2013-2019 Legacy and Outback, 2012-2019 Impreza, 2013-2019 Crosstrek and 2011-2019 Forester equipped with FB engines.

A new active valve control system (AVCS) oil control solenoid valve (OCV) features a redesigned internal oil seal. The new seal will eliminate potential oil seepage into the valve’s wire harness connector. If oil seeps into the connector, the check engine lamp will illuminate and set various AVCS-related DTCs.

New OCVs can be identified by their production lot number located on the face of the solenoid.

If oil is found in the wire harness connector during the diagnosis of AVCS-related DTCs, replace the affected OCV with a new part number.

The production number of an OCV can be found on the valve face.
