Subaru Rain Sensor Issue

Sept. 2, 2021

This bulletin applies to 2019 Subaru Ascent vehicles.

This bulletin applies to 2019 Subaru Ascent vehicles. Whenever the Rain Sensor is removed or replaced, initialization of the sensor must be performed. For 2019 Ascent vehicles, the automatic light and wiper (ALW) control module does not display as an available system on SSM4. Setting the SSM4 software as a 2017 Legacy/Outback will allow access to the Ascent ALW and calibration can be performed. As a workaround, if SSM4 is not updated, follow these steps:

Open SSM4 and select Diagnosis.

Enter the vehicle information as 17MY Legacy/Outback.

Connect DST-1 to the OBD connector.

From “Each System” select Automatic Light and Wiper.

From Work Support, select Sensor initial setting.
