Toyota Compression Loss

Oct. 29, 2021

This bulletin concerns some 2012-2014 Toyota Corolla vehicles equipped with a 2ZR-FE engine and some 2012-2013 Matrix vehicles with the same engine.

On some 2012-2014 Toyota Corolla vehicles equipped with a 2ZR-FE engine and  2012-2013 Matrix vehicles with the same engine, the MIL may be on, with DTC P219A (bank 1 air-fuel ratio imbalance) present. There may be compression loss in the exhaust.

Using Techstream, check for DTCs and confirm the condition is present. If misfires are present, this bulletin does not apply. If no misfires are present, perform a cylinder leak-down test on each cylinder. Note any cylinders with a high compression loss percentage. If compression loss is found, listen to the exhaust, intake and crankcase to determine the source of the leakage.

Replace the cylinder head and all exhaust and intake valves for the affected cylinder(s).
