Fixing Lincoln Temperature-Dependent Issue

Jan. 3, 2023

Some 2016-2017 Lincoln MKC, MKT, MKX and Navigator vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 and built on July 1, 2015 through Dec. 31, 2016 may exhibit a SYNC display message of “Please check your surroundings for safety” along with no rear view camera image when in reverse gear. This may only occur at ambient temperatures ranging from 23 degrees F to 41 degrees F. This may be due to a temperature-dependent issue with the APIM module.

Start the engine and set the HVAC controls to maximum heat with blower speed on high. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. This will allow the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) to reach normal operating temperature. If the problem exists, replace the APIM. Refer to the workshop manual section 415-00.
