This bulletin applies to 2016-2017 Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles. The MIL may be on, and DTC P0011 (camshaft position Bank 1 timing over-advanced or system performance) and/or P0016 (crankshaft position – camshaft position correlation Bank 1 sensor A) may be stored in the ECM.

Wear of the camshaft bearing bridge can cause axial movement of the camshaft, resulting in the stored faults.

Inspect the camshaft bearing bridge and replace if necessary. Remove the camshaft bearing bridge according to the repair manual. Check the bearing bridge (camshaft side) for damage (groove in the bearing surface or lip protruding from the bearing surface).

If damage is found and the bridge is replaced, be sure to change the engine oil and filter before starting the engine.
