Squeaky is as squeaky does

Some 2010-2012 Mazda3 vehicles (including 2.0L SKYACTIV with A/T only) may exhibit a squeaky noise from the engine compartment when the vehicle starts moving and/or during transmission shifting.

This is caused by a stick-slip noise occurring at the contact surfaces between the No. 4 engine mount rubber and the No. 4 engine mount bracket when the engine shakes back and forth.

To correct the problem, the No. 4 engine mount is replaced and grease is applied on the contact surfaces of the No. 4 engine mount bracket.

Remove the No. 4 engine mount rubber (refer to MS3 online instructions or workshop manual section 09-20 ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

Clean the surfaces of the No. 4 engine mount bracket where it contacts the engine mount rubber. Place masking tape over the bolt hole of the No. 4 engine mount bracket to prevent grease from entering the hole (grease in the hole can result in a hydraulic lock, preventing proper bolt tightening torque).

Apply rubber grease on the surfaces of the No. 4 engine mount bracket on 4 lateral sides where it contacts the engine mount rubber. Wipe off any grease on the top surface and remove the masking tape.

Install a new No. 4 engine mount rubber. Install other parts in reverse order of removal. Verify the repair.
