Spot welds need help

Jan. 9, 2013
Some owners of 2007-2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevy Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL and Yukon Denali XL vehicles may complain about a pop, squeak or tick noise from the left front dash area when driving over bumps. The noise is worse when cold and may go away at higher ambient temperatures.

The concern may be caused by a loose spot weld that attaches the L bracket from the left front fender panel to the front bulkhead.

To resolve the problem, add three bolts (with nuts) between the left front fender brackets and the fender inner panel. This fender bracket is spot welded to the inner panel and attaches to the front-of-dash with two nuts (studs through the dash panel). These three bolts/nuts are added through existing holes in the bracket and fender.
