Hot VW Glow Plug

This bulletin applies to 2012 Volkswagen Passat Sedan, Jetta and Golf diesel-equipped  models where the technician finds DTCs P0671, P0672, P0673 and/or P0674 stored in the ECM fault memory, along with the MIL on.

P0671……..Cylinder 1 glow plug circuit

P0672……..Cylinder 2 glow plug circuit

P0673……..Cylinder 3 glow plug circuit

P0674……..Cylinder 4 glow plug circuit

An internal hardware issue of the glow plug relays may cause an over-voltage supply to the glow plug(s), damaging the glow plug heating element.

Improved glow plug relays are now available in production and spare parts. If the DTC(s) are stored in the ECM memory, replace the appropriate glow plug relay and the affected glow plug. Refer to the repair manual group 28 in ElsaWeb.
