MIL on after engine repair?

This TSB applies to a handful of Toyotas vehicles including 2001-2008 RAV4, 2002-2007 Highlander, 2002-2008 Solara, 2009-2011 Matrix, 2002-2009 Camry and 2009-2011 Corolla, all equipped with 1AZ-FE or 2AZ-FE engines.

Condition: MIL “ON” and DTC P0012 (Camshaft Position A – Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1)) stored after recent engine repairs. DTC P1349 (VVT System Malfunction (Bank 1)) will set for older vehicles.

Recommendations: Check if the vehicle has had any recent repairs that involved service of the head, camshaft, camshaft bearing caps or VVTi actuator. Verify that the upper and lower camshaft bearings are present, as one or both may have been inadvertently left out during reassembly, causing no oil pressure to the VVTi actuator.
