Why Battery Service Is Now Part of the Diagnostic Process
Module programming and ADAS calibration depend on sustained voltage — sometimes 100-110 amps of constant current for extended periods. If the battery can't hold that load, the procedure can fail partway through, forcing a restart or worse.
Kimberly Cottle, President and CEO of Associated Equipment, breaks down what's changed: battery chemistries now range from AGM to enhanced flooded to lithium, each with its own charging profile and generic equipment doesn't cover all of them anymore.
Her recommendation is simple: Check battery condition and stabilize power before the diagnostic procedure starts, not after a problem shows up. Shops that build this into their process see fewer dropouts, fewer misleading codes and fewer repeat visits.
